I woke up at 6:30 AM on Saturday, showered, brushed my teeth, got dressed, did my vocal practice, all before 9:30 AM.
I am a very very heavy sleeper and usually do not wake up that early. I had my alarm set for 8:30 AM, actually. So, my Mom, Dad, and I leave at about 10:00 AM to get to the idol auditions. We get there just before 10:30 AM, and see lots of people walking around with numbers. After asking someone, and getting confused and walking around in circles, and seeing Ben Mulroney for a minute, we find where to get a number. I get a form, sit in the middle of the mall on the ground, and have my mom sit on the ground too (as lasy teens do not want to give up their space for a blind lady with a spinal cord injury) and fill out the form.
So I go and get a number after the form is filled out, and they tell me I need two pieces of ID from the government. They said I need a passport by Monday if I get to Monday rounds, or proof that I am waiting on one.
I get my number, number 04085, I am told to take some safety pins and pin it on my stomach. My actual stomach? No, I think they meant on my shirt in the stomach area. And if not, everyone else got it wrong too. And they ask me if I want a free Juno Awards key chain. Free stuff? YES! Of course I want it!
So I go and sit back down where I was. A person that was sitting next to me got filmed for the show, when she was playing her guitar. So after seeing that, it has become my goal to sing as loud as I can and get filmed. Didn't really work out well.
So my mom and I go and get our passport photos taken at Wal-Mart. Then we come back to check the numbers, and go back to check if our photos are ready. My mom had to retake hers as she was smiling, and I had to retake mine as my "forehead was shiny".
And then I go to Sunrise records, looking for a certain CD. (Damhnait Doyle - Lights Down Low) which I couldn't find. :(
After a number of trips back and forth to Wal-Mart, I try and find a chair to sit down in. And for about 20 minutes my Mom and I sat down at the exact opposite end of the mall that the audition line up is...And then I go to check the numbers, and come back, and someone stole my seat! Where we were sitting down was right where the Tier 2 auditions were held. I saw 1 person come out with a blue ticket. I also heard someone sing I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair) by Sandi Thom, which was one of the songs I was going to do.
So, I look at a store with my Mom, and my Dad calls while we're in the store. I talk to a person who works there who says their friend who was there at 6 AM, hasn't auditioned yet, and it was about 3:30 PM then.
So my Mom and I are hungry, and I get a head ache, so we go to Wal-Mart again and get something to eat at McDonald's. Which we stay there for a long time. Eventually my Dad comes back and meets up with us at McDonald's, then sees people he knows at McDonald's, then we talk to them and such...
So after running back and forth about 20 times, singing a group song, Lean On Me, and getting filmed, then that group song changing in to Going Under by Evanescence, and having the same Wal-Mart greeter wish me luck at my audition each time, it is finally near the time for my audition. At about 5 PM I had to get in line and wait. The guy who puts the line up in order is a loud and rude sounding man. And so I stand in line for the next 30 minutes. Losing my balance a couple times, praying lots of times, and devouring about 20 tic tacs, it is finally the time to go to the waiting room. Which is a trailer, outside, in the cold, with no heating.
I talk to a couple people, ask the one girl, Brandi, if she has auditioned before. She said she had in season 2, but didn't make it anywhere. I told her it was my first time auditioning. And then I talk to the other girl beside me, I forgot her name, but I told her about having to get a passport and everything. Then I try to talk to her a bit more, and she either didn't hear me, or didn't know I was talking to her. Oh well.
Anyways, at about 5:45 PM, we all go in to the audition room. Brandi sings "My Heart Will Go On". Bleh. The other girl sings "You Were Meant For Me" and has a very interesting tone to her voice. I'd actually buy a CD from her. A guy named Jay sings an original song with his guitar, and another sings Bobcaygeon with his guitar.
The producer, who looks like a poor mans version of Martina McBride and is very happy pappy like Paula Abdul, said to the guy singing Bobcaygeon "So, you're from Boycaygeon, how very tragically hip......OH, you're SINGING Bobcaygeon by Tragically Hip." She's been looking at forms like this all day, and can't understand which bar "location" is under and "song" is under. I sang "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse. I was nervous and had a bit of a vibrato, but I thought I did good...
Before the audition, she told us all to be entertaining, as she is picturing us on stage. Then she told us all that we were entertaining, the most entertaining EVER!!11!11!! and our vocals were above average, but we were all cut.
She said "If you think I'm crazy, come see me in Toronto" and me, not knowing what she just said, I respond "I'll see you in Toronto!"
Then the producer asks the audition assistant "WHO SAID THAT?" and sounds angry. And the assistant says "Adam...Adam did."
And so I leave at 6:00 PM, get an ice cream, and come home.
And that was my Saturday. 7 hours of waiting. Oh golly gee, so fun!
Here's the key chain and my number...
Only 82 people got to TV rounds. Not a lot... And some were really horrible... Like the red spiked hair guy who I commented on, at VFTW.
Signing off now to watch American Idol....
