Tyler Kyte @ The Casbah - May 7th-8th, 2009

So today I went to see Tyler Kyte perform. I had completely forgotten about the event until 3 days before when I read about it on Jennifer's (jdancer189 on DLS) twitter. The thing is, yesterday I got my wisdom teeth out. So I had to spend most of my day convincing my parents to let me go, and that I was feeling well enough to go. Yesterday out of habbit I put my wisdom teeth out for "The Tooth Fairy". Little did I know that "The Tooth Fairy" would wake me up at 2 AM while he was putting $20 on my desk. $20 was perfect, as that was the price for two people to get into the show.

So Jennifer filled me in on all the details about the show and told me where to find her. So a few minutes after I got there, which was about 11:15 PM I heard "Hey Adam!". It was a manly voice, so I knew it wasn't Jennifer, unless Jennifer had a sex change. Who was it? Dan the man Kanter, Shiloh's guitarist. But tonight he was Tyler Kyte's guitarist. So I was talking to him a bit about Shiloh's video for Goodbye, You Suck getting nominated for an MMVA, Shiloh's next video shoot, getting my wisdom teeth out, and how I heard of Tyler. So after talking with him a bit I talked to my Mom and said I was going to hunt for Jennifer.

So I asked Dan if the girl sitting next to Tyler was named Jennifer, he asked and then told me that's who she was. I said "Hey, I'm Adam!" and introduced myself. I shook her hand, and then I shook Tyler's hand. Dan told Tyler that I'm on Tylenol 3's and then Tyler said "Oh, do you have any on you? Just kidding." Even after he said he was just kidding, for some reason I still answered his question and told him they were all at home. So I talked to Jennifer about a few different things... Twitter, Twilight, Jordan McCoy, American Juniors, Spring Awakening, how I knew Dan, getting my wisdom teeth out, the firing of my music teacher, hand stands, cart wheels, and DLS. I suggested that we get Tyler to pose with a DLS sign, so he did. He also signed my Instant Star 3 and 4 soundtracks.

The paper was mine, but the writing was Jennifer's. If you're a long time reader of this blog, you know my printing is total crap.

So I got a couple pictures with Tyler. The first didn't turn out that great, so I got another one. I didn't want to at first, as I didn't want to seem like a stalker...Getting several pictures with him or of him, and getting him to sign many things... The second picture turned out better than the first, even though my face looked a bit swollen.

So a lot of time had passed before Tyler finally took the stage. I went outside with Jennifer and her sister for a bit of fresh air... Dan was out there, so I told him to tell Shiloh that I'd love to be at her video shoot. He told me that he had text messaged her and told her I was there. Speaking of text messaging, I noticed that I had forgotten to top up my cell phone account when trying to call my Dad. With all the excitement of getting my wisdom teeth out, I lost $44.

So when I went back inside, I had to go to the washroom. At the same time Tyler Kyte was in the washroom, so Jennifer asked me afterwards "Was Tyler in there at the same time as you?". She seemed to kind of let out a squee of happiness when she said that. Meeting someone in the washroom, or seeing someone you know in the washroom is incredibly weird. Like when I was at the Goodbye, You Suck video shoot and one of the guys in charge was in the washroom at the same time as I was and asked me "What's up?". Awkward.

So once Tyler was finally on, over a half hour after he was scheduled to be on, his set was 4 songs long. Since I didn't have his album yet, I wasn't sure what songs he was singing. But I'm pretty sure Sunlight was one of them... Tyler said that he had to sell his Bruce Springsteen tickets so he could perform tonight, but during his set he wore a Bruce Springsteen t-shirt. This was the first concert I've been to where the artist talked to me while on stage. Apparently it wasn't as amazing for me to go there as it was for Jennifer to come all the way from Michigan, lol.




After his set Dan asked me how I liked it, and I said it was good. "It's not Goodbye, You Suck though, is it?" "No, but it was still good!" I also thanked Dan a lot for handing me a copy of Shiloh's set list when I had seen her at the Casbah 2 months ago. He told me he collects set lists, so he is always happy to hand them out. Tyler had said on stage that people there could buy his CD, so I was looking for where Tyler was selling his CD, and I couldn't find them. I asked him and a few minutes later a big box of them were brought inside. I had to go to the bar to get change, as I only had a $50 bill. After I bought the CD I had Jennifer open it so I could get Tyler to sign it. I'm jealous of females and their easy CD shrink wrap opening skills.

So afterwards I went outside and got a picture with Tyler, Jennifer, and her sister Jodie. (I think that was her name!) There was this guy outside with Tyler and he took the picture of me with Tyler, and he was telling me that the sound quality of Tyler's album was great. I already bought it, so he didn't really need to say that to sell it to me. So I told Tyler that it did take a lot for me to get there, as I had to convince my parents that I was well enough after getting my wisdom teeth out. And he said he was just joking when he said what he did on stage. I told Tyler that I've been a fan of his since Popular Mechanics for Kids, and I watched it all the time with my brother. Which was true.

So I got a picture with Dan the man Kanter, and told him to say hi to Shiloh for me. He mentioned again that he had text messaged her. I kind of forgot that he said that before because I was semi-asleep, like I am now writing this recap at 5 AM.

Dan asked me if I was going to write a recap on my blog, because he apparently reads Adam's World and enjoys it. This might be why I've referred to him as Dan the man Kanter a few times.....

So yeah, I had a great time! I also believe I am starting to overcome my shyness a little bit, since I was able to form sentences when talking to partial strangers! To all those DLS members reading this, Jennifer is very nice! She put up with me accidently interrupting her and her sister talking a few times because I couldn't hear them, my probably horrible breath, and me telling her that she looks like my friend who I have a huge crush on.
