June 16th, 2009 = Best day ever music wise.

Okay, so maybe June 16th, 2009 will not go down in history, but yesterday was a great day music wise.

First, I woke up and did what I do everyday when I wake up, turn on my computer and check out iTunes. I was shocked to find that Shiloh's new single "Alright" was available. (I thought Shiloh's newsletter would alert me first about all future releases?!) Anyways, I bought "Alright" and listened to it. It's more like Operator (A Girl Like Me) than Goodbye, You Suck. This is probably because the same two guys wrote it. I kind of find it weird that two guys wrote a song called A Girl Like Me. But who am I to say something is weird? I dress up like Britney Spears during her crazy days in Fall of '07 for my YouTube videos. While on that subject, of course I did that in a promo video for Alright.

It took me about 10 minutes to get that wig into a ponytail.

I like the song, it's breezy summery fun. I have no idea what that means, but it's uplifting and reminds me of the beach or something... I don't know, I don't understand what I'm writing half of the time. I tried to write a review for it on iTunes, but it won't let me for some reason...

So after listening to Alright several times, I noticed that a song that has been stuck in my head a lot lately was just added to iTunes. It's weird because I first heard the song over 2 years ago, and haven't heard it at all recently. It's called "Back To L.A." by Melanie Doane. I think it might've been stuck in my head because of the possibility that I'm going to L.A. this summer. Anyways, I bought it and sang along with it.

I also found out yesterday that Regina Spektor's new album is streaming in full on MySpace. I listened to it, it's pretty good. I might even review it on here.

Another thing I found out was that HMV is starting to get copies of Little Boots Illuminations EP in, but the official physical release is next Tuesday.

The best part of yesterday was that I got to go to open mic again. This time they were only allowing 2 song sets, so I had to choose wisely. There were 2 spotlight bands before me. Neither one of them were experimental, thank you Jesus! What I didn't understand was why both of the bands were playing slow songs, the drunks don't want to hear that! The first band even said their album was called "Depression River". They were both very talented musically, but entertaining the crowd, not so much. Then a girl with an acoustic guitar came on at 10:30. She was good, but once again didn't entertain the drunk crowd.

So it was time for my set, and I wanted to do my best to make the crowd laugh. "So I was bored, and I decided to research how to stay as disconnected from my performance as possible. It said 1. Don't sing live. 2. Hire several background dancers to cover up your poor performance skills. 3. *laugh* I FORGOT WHAT THREE WAS!" and then someone shouted "Maybe that is what 3 was!" and so I laughed and agreed. "So if you want to see all that, Britney Spears tickets go on sale Friday, but I'm going to entertain the way I KNOW HOW!" What's funny is 3. was supposed to be "Don't communicate with your audience".

So I performed Anti-Love Song. I made a few minor lyric changes. I had the audience clap along again, and I was trying to get them to stop by doing a slashing motion across my neck... Apparently they thought it meant something different, like I hated love songs so much that I wanted to slash my throat, and they all laughed.

So my second song was Just Dance by Lady GaGa. "This is a song by one of my favourite artists, and I get to see her live on Friday, so I'm excited". Not sure why, but some people laughed at that. "So if you know it, you can sing along, clap along, or JUST DANCE!" The audience didn't really clap along like they did back when I sang Hot N Cold last time, but I think I did okay.

So after my set I had 4 people who I didn't know come up to me and say I did a good job. One of the guys from the second band said I did good. One random girl told me that I did a great job, and that she prefered my song to the Lady GaGa song. As a songwriter, even a really bad one like myself, I really appreciated that comment.

So I decided to stay for 4 more sets. 2/4 were rappers... White rappers. I didn't really enjoy it that much. I was expecting another pretty girl with an acoustic guitar to perform, but that didn't happen. Oh well, I guess that's what YouTube is for, right?

Jordan McCoy's new acoustic Tuesday video this week is a original song. An original song that she actually wrote!

See, that's a songwriter. That's the kind of song I want to be able to write, something with emotion, power, and feeling into it. I love how she now sings the background vocals and adds them in later. It really makes up for the solo acoustic videos she had made that weren't the greatest audio quality, starting from Rehab by Rihanna and ending at Mad by Ne-Yo. Please Don't Leave Me, and On A Saturday Night (11:27) weren't that bad, but Just Watch Me and Sitting Here you could really notice the bad audio quality.

The video features pictures of Perez Hilton, and another person who uses the last name Hilton because he thinks it'll make him famous. It won't, just stop. I don't really think Perez Hilton is the best person to be an activist for gay rights. He's a total douchebag. He's an annoying attention whore that everyone hates and he brings disgrace to the name of gay people just like Chris Crocker, Danny Noriega, and Jeffree Star do. Stop trying so hard.

Though maybe having Perez in the video is a smart marketing move. It worked for Kalan Porter.

Also in the video is Brennan Hillard from American Juniors, who recently appeared in the movie Dance Flick. If you haven't seen it, you need to, his Fame scene is hilarious. He's a nice guy, too. He's always communicating with his fans on Twitter.

So yeah, that was my Tuesday, and those are the reasons why I think Tuesday was a great day for music. Up next will be my recap for Lady GaGa's show on Friday.
